After having conversations and debates about Kendrick K Dot Lamar with Facebook friends to childhood buddies,he continues to push the envelope I wondered why is this dope emcee so polarizing?
Fans of drill music may deem him too preachy and old school aficionados claim that he hasn’t produced enough to receive the praise that he has landed at his doorstep. Me, myself I think that he deserves all of the praise and then some for his conscious efforts to include the American inner-city narrative. His latest album has been compared to Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man (My Favorite Book), he continues to push the envelope of all artists to be a reflection of their environment while having a perspective regarding it’s condition. Music is entertainment and we need all kinds but some level of consciousness should be included as well. Artists shouldn’t allow themselves to be puppets or pawns of the industry because when you’re no longer hot you’re done. Go out on your own merit and have an original thought.
